This year, Makar Sankranti will be celebrated on 15th January. According to the Drik Panchang, Sankranti tithi will be on January 15 at 8:57 pm. At the same time, Makar Sankranti punya kaal will be from 7:15 am to 5:46 pm. Noon (Duration – 10 hours 31 minutes) and Makar Sankranti Maha Punya Kaal will start at 7:15 am and end at 9:00 pm (Duration – 1 hour 45 minutes).
People of the Hindu community celebrate Makar Sankranti because they consider this period auspicious. Sankranti festivities last for two to four days in most areas. During the festival, people worship the Sun God. This day is considered auspicious to take a dip in holy water and rivers. On this day, people donate to the needy, fly kites, and prepare sweets made of sesame and jaggery.
