 Formation of VECs /MTAs

Tripura has the unique characteristic of having Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC). About ¾ of its total land area falls under the control of TTAADC. While there are elected Panchayats outside TTAADC area, the villages under ADC have Village Development Committees. For the purpose of monitoring and supervision of implementation of SSA prograrnrne Village Education Committees have been formed in all 1062 Gaon Panchayats and ADC villages. These committees are overseeing the implementation of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan programme in the Panchayats/ ADC villages. The composition of VEC in non-ADC area is as follows:

The composition of Village Education Committee in the villages of TTAADC area is given below:
 
(i) Chairman, VDC - Chairman
(ii) Two members of VDC - Member
(iii) Two Chairmen, MTA - Member
(iv) One Person interested in Education - Member
(v) H.M. of lead school of the village - Secretary
 

For Agartala Municipal Council, Committees have been formed for each of the Municipal Wards as per following composition:

 
(i) Ward Councillor - Chairman
(ii) Two Chairmen, MTA - Member
(iii) Two Person interested in Education. - Member
(iv) One teacher representative - Member
(v) H.M. of lead school of the village - Secretary
 

For all the Nagar Panchayats, a Committee for each of the Nagar Panchayats has been formed for monitoring and supervision of SSA implementation in Nagar Panchayat areas as per following composition:

 
(i) Chairperson, Nagar Panchayat - Chairman
(ii) One members of Nagar Panchayat - Member
(iii) Two Chairmen, MTA - Member
(iv) One person interested in Education - Member
(v) One teacher representative - Member
(vi) H.M. of lead school of the village - Secretary
 

There are 1983 primary schools, 1003 upper primary schools, 417 high schools and 245 H.S. schools with elementary sections in the state. For all these schools MTAs have been formed to look after SSA implementation in the concerned schools.

For 12 Nagar Panchayat areas, Nagar Panchayat Ward Committees have been formed to look after implementation of SSA programme in the concerned Nagar Panchayat. For Agartala Municipal Council area, Agartala Municipal ward Education Committee has been formed for each of the Municipal Ward under the chairmanship of elected Councilor of the concerned Ward.

Recently, the area of Agartala Municipal Council has been expanded. A large number of Panchayats has now been brought under the coverage of .Agartala Municipal Council.
