In Tripura,
Education Guarantee Scheme (EGS) and Alternative & Innovative
Education (AIE) have been started only in 2003-04. The PAB has
approved 1939 EGS centres and 200 Bridge Course Centres for all
the 4 districts in the year 2003-04. Out of that 1917 EGS
centres and 182 Bridge Course Centres have since been made
functional. Out of 1939 EGS centres 624 are in West Tripura
District, 342 in South Tripura District, 441 in Dhalai District
and 532 in North Tripura District. Similarly, out of 200 Bridge
Course Centres 72 are in West Tripura District, 55 in South
Tripura District, 34 in Dhalai District and 39 in North Tripura
District. The enrolment in EGS centres is 55673 and that in the
Bridge Course is 6741 during the year March 2006.
Tripura has a strong 3-tier Panchayati Raj Institutions. These
institutions are vibrant and very responsive. During the entire
financial year 2004-05 continuous campaign has been made in the
villages and urban areas for creation of awareness among the
community for enrolment of the children who are still
out-of-school. In this campaign, the Panchayats have played a
vital role. The Village Education Committees and the Mother
Teacher Associations have played their roles in this enrolment
drive. From the State Unit of SSA the following actions have
