 EGS/AIE

In Tripura, Education Guarantee Scheme (EGS) and Alternative & Innovative Education (AIE) have been started only in 2003-04. The PAB has approved 1939 EGS centres and 200 Bridge Course Centres for all the 4 districts in the year 2003-04. Out of that 1917 EGS centres and 182 Bridge Course Centres have since been made functional. Out of 1939 EGS centres 624 are in West Tripura District, 342 in South Tripura District, 441 in Dhalai District and 532 in North Tripura District. Similarly, out of 200 Bridge Course Centres 72 are in West Tripura District, 55 in South Tripura District, 34 in Dhalai District and 39 in North Tripura District. The enrolment in EGS centres is 55673 and that in the Bridge Course is 6741 during the year March 2006.

Tripura has a strong 3-tier Panchayati Raj Institutions. These institutions are vibrant and very responsive. During the entire financial year 2004-05 continuous campaign has been made in the villages and urban areas for creation of awareness among the community for enrolment of the children who are still out-of-school. In this campaign, the Panchayats have played a vital role. The Village Education Committees and the Mother Teacher Associations have played their roles in this enrolment drive. From the State Unit of SSA the following actions have been taken for enrolment of out-of-school children in formal and alternative schools:-

 
1 Admission Mela is being organized in January every year for enrolment of out-of-school children in formal or alternative schools.
2 Community mobilization for creation of demand for education among the parents of out-of-school children is being done with the involvement of Panchayati Raj Institutions.
3 The Headmasters of all categories of schools have been sensitized for house-to-house campaign for the motivation of the parents.
4 Massive teacher training programme is being conducted not only to enhance the competencies of the teachers for imparting quality teaching but also to create awareness and motivation for taking care of the needs of out-of-school children.
5 Block Resource Centres and Cluster Resource Centres are being strengthened for house-to-house counseling.
6 Consolidation of implementation of various interventions of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan.
7 Special coaching for the slow learners.
8 Implementation of various incentive programmes.
9 Supply of cooked food to the primary school children.
10 Improvement of physical facilities of all schools.
